About us
Who We Are:
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
We are a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one Body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.

What We Believe:
In a personal relationship with Christ, whose life and ministry reveal God’s will.
In open communion. All are welcome at God’s Table. Communion is celebrated weekly in worship.
In baptism by immersion.
In freedom of belief. We often say, "We have no creed but Christ.” We believe in free will, personal discernment, and personal interpretation. Christ is our core and God’s love unites us all.
In Unity. We are called to be one in Christ and to seek opportunities to witness and serve together.
In the ministry of all believers. Both clergy and lay persons lead in worship and spiritual growth.

What to Expect:
The mission of Central Christian Church is to serve its community in the spirit of Christ; Nurture a relationship between God, self and others; Glorify God in Worship. Visitors quickly discover the church embodies “welcome” in all it does. The kindness and hospitable nature of the congregation abounds. It genuinely cares about the entire Waterloo community and wants to see everyone thrive spiritually and socially.

The Disciples of Christ made several attempts to start a congregation in Waterloo before the Ladies Aid Society eventually started the church. After being founded in 1897, the congregation moved its house of worship to a few different Waterloo locations before the current church at 3475 Kimball Avenue was dedicated in 1964.
Worship services are held each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. In addition to partaking in song, prayer, and the day’s sermon, expect to have the opportunity to ask about and explore faith in Jesus without pressure or judgment. Central Christian also offers children's programming in a safe and fun environment filled with playtime, crafts, and age-appropriate teachings.
Whether you are visiting or considering joining our Central Christian family, we ask that you give us a chance to get to know each other. Accept our hand of friendship. We'd not only love to hear your story, but we look forward to sharing more about our many fellowship groups and successful outreach programs. Let’s grow in our Christian faith together.
